Unfortunately, I missed class on Monday so I did not get to hear from Jeff Hopkins in person, however, I have had the chance to look at all of the resources and information posted on our class website and a classmate’s notes on the presentation! (thanks ava <3)
I had no idea there was a school that focused on this type of learning in Victoria! I find this so cool because I feel like these inquiry-based schools are sparse in our society. From what I have gathered, PSII reminds me a lot of high tech high from the Most Likely to Succeed film we watched in our first week of class––having students gain autonomy and lead their own learning as well as prepping them for university. The high school I went to is also a university prep school in Calgary, so it has been interesting seeing the differences and similarities between my high school and PSII as well!
I think that schools like PSII are so important to begin a change in the education system––there is a lot of misinformation around inquiry-based schools so having the opportunity to speak with someone like Jeff Hopkins is always a step in the right direction. I am so sad I missed the in-person presentation this week! But (even still) reading about PSII and its progressive style of education was super enjoyable!
